Within this series I have used Southern Ice Porcelain clay. While often difficult to work with, its translucency and surface qualities compensates for any difficulty.
The forms are wheel thrown, and have been created in sets of 2 or three. Once trimmed, I then added raised geometric designs in a small section at the front of the vessels to break up the surface. This has been done using shellac as a resist and then wiping back the unfired clay. Small sections have been carved out to allow the passing of light and colour from within.
Stains and glazes have been used on both internal and external surfaces, concealing the crisp whiteness of the porcelain. However, as the clay is so translucent, when lit from within it glows, and illuminates all the colours in a new way.
Several pieces in this collection are available from my online shop.
