This collection is made from Southern Ice Porcelain clay. One of the techniques Danica uses is throwing the vessels extremely thin to bring out the translucency of the porcelain. Then textures are added by masking off areas of the unfired clay surface with shellac before sponging away the background to a thinness that, when fired, will allow the passage of light.
Lighting
Within some of her work she also uses a light source, either natural or by installing LED lights inside the work, to illuminate an essence within, and allow light to transcend through the delicate porcelain form.
The LEDs require very low voltage, and as it is installed within the work itself, or within a small stand on which the work sits, it permits a flexible, modular system in which the pieces can easily be interchanged and relocated. The LEDS, which illuminate the work, are new generation, high intensity LEDs with a manufacturer’s estimated life of ten years.
The light emitted by these objects lends to their placement in rooms and hallways where subtle, ambient, night-time light is required
Several pieces in this collection are available from my online shop.
