Reflecting Epitome 2010 Collection
These wheel thrown altered forms explore the contrast of mirror black external 'shells' juxtaposing internal worlds of colours. Different stains and glazes are layered on top of each other inside the works and are sometimes carved into to reveal hidden glimpses of different colours.

Raku & Pit Fire 2010 Collection
Raku is a Low Temperature fast firing process that yields exciting, chance surface effects on ceramic ware. The Western method differs from the Japanese in that the ware is subjected to a post firing in a combustible material (e.g. sawdust) in a reduction chamber.

The ware is porous and should not be used for food.

Inner Colour 2010 Collection
This collection is made from Southern Ice Porcelain clay. There is a resist technique used on the external surface to create texture which emphasise patterns influenced by macro and microscopic nature.
By leaving the pure white of the porcelain clay on the outside, I find it acts like the skin, holding in the colour. It also creates contrast, between a soft white, the external plainness, and the vibrant internal world, trying to reveal its true self...

Illuminated 2010 Collection
Many of Danica’s delicate ceramic forms emphasises the translucency and fragility of the Southern Ice Porcelain. One of the techniques she uses is to wheel throw her vessels extremely thin to bring out the translucency of the porcelain.Textures are then added by masking off areas of the unfired clay surface with shellac before sponging away the background to a thinness that, when fired, will allow the passage of light...

Human Form 2010 Collection
This series was influenced by the human form. These wheel thrown pieces have been altered to create an interesting dynamics between the surface and the designs. The human form has been simplified, focusing on movement, energy and form. The resist technique used raises the figures, creating an interesting play of shadows. The internal colours draw the eye in, hinting that we should look beyond the surface to the bright internal world and examine the relationship between the two.

Colour Layers 2010 Collection
Coloured stain has been added to these Sothern Ice Porcelain vessels. They have been added at different stages of creation; in some of the works the colour was added during the preparation of the clay through wedging it in, other pieces had the colour added as inserts during different times of the throwing stage.
