What Remains Sculptural Porcelain Vessel with Black Cockatoos (Available to order)

$2,600.00

What Remains is a sculptural response to the growing silence of our skies.

First exhibited at the Biosphere Boodja Arts and Wild Things Festival in Goomalling, this work was installed within a crop circle in wheat fields, directly engaging with the surrounding agricultural landscape. The porcelain vessel rests atop a blackened stump, referencing habitat cleared or scorched, while chewed Marri gum nuts scattered at the base echo past feedings that are becoming increasingly rare.

Carved into the surface are three black cockatoo species of Western Australia. The Forest Red-tailed Black Cockatoo appears vivid and richly coloured. The Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo is present but fading. The Baudin’s Black Cockatoo is carved as a ghosted form, left without colour, its absence speaking to its growing rarity.

Made on the potter’s wheel, from Southern Ice porcelain, and finished with native seed pod impressions, underglaze, and sgraffito carving. Each vessel becomes a quiet homage to the birds’ resilience and the fragile canopy they protect. This work functions as both a celebration and a call to action, asking what remains, and what might still be saved.

As seen at Biosphere Boodja in the crop circle, this artwork is available as a custom order. Each piece is handmade, and variations will naturally occur. Personalised requests and species emphasis can be discussed.
