Sculpture on the Scarp 2026 | What Remains by Danica Wichtermann

  • Darlington Station Reserve, Darlington, WA Darlington, Western Australia, 6070 Australia (map)

I'm very excited to be part of Sculpture on the Scarp at this year's Darlington Arts Festival. Even more so after receiving the Best in Show award for my sculpture, What Remains.

What Remains | Black Cockatoos and the Traces of a Disappearing Habitat

What Remains explores the relationship between Western Australia's black cockatoos and their increasingly fragile habitat.

Inspired by the natural environment of the Perth Hills, the work brings together porcelain, carved imagery, botanical textures and seed pod impressions with reclaimed timber. It reflects on habitat loss, survival and resilience, and draws attention to what remains as these birds continue to lose the landscapes they depend on.

The work is part of my ongoing exploration of the three black cockatoo species found in Western Australia, and my connection to the bushland and wildlife around my home in the Perth Hills.

Visit Sculpture on the Scarp

Sculpture on the Scarp is an outdoor exhibition set along the Darlington Station Reserve. Wander the trail between Glen Road and the main festival site to discover a collection of sculptures displayed amongst the trees and native understorey.

It's a lovely opportunity to experience art outdoors, with the surrounding landscape becoming part of the exhibition.
