POTTERY WORKSHOP - Sgraffito Shaped Platter [Sunday, 8th November]
SGRAFFITO CARVING: Shaped Platter - with mini bowl or dish
Unleash your creativity in this hands-on workshop focused on sgraffito carving, where you’ll create a beautiful, functional platter with your own unique design. This class caters to all skill levels, whether you're a beginner or have prior experience with clay. Under the expert guidance of Danica, you'll explore both basic and advanced sgraffito techniques, from tool selection to hand-building your items using high-quality stoneware clay.
What to Expect:
Clay Hand-Building & Design: Learn to shape and mold your plate/platter and mini dish/bowl by hand. You'll have the option to design with nature-inspired motifs, such as leaves or feathers, or feel free to explore your own ideas with our provided round or rectangle templates.
Sgraffito Carving Technique: After creating your piece, you’ll apply colourful underglazes and carve back into the design to create striking, engraved patterns that will give your plate a truly one-of-a-kind appearance.
Creative Process: Danica will guide you through each step, demonstrating various carving techniques and offering personalized tips to help you craft a visually impactful design. The workshop includes a mix of organic and linear patterns, offering lots of room for creativity.
Make More Than One Piece: During the workshop, you’ll create one larger feature plate, a mini dish or bowl. You'll also be shown how to make your own carving tools and discover which ones are best suited for different effects.
