Kalamunda Open Studios 2026
Art, ceramics, forged steel and a little hands-on making
Kalamunda Open Studios is back, and I’m opening the doors of Rediscover Ceramics for another weekend of art, making, conversation and a look behind the scenes of a working artist’s studio.
Across the weekend, artists and makers throughout the Kalamunda region open their studios to the public, offering visitors the chance to meet the people behind the work, see where it is made, discover different creative processes and purchase directly from local artists.
I’ve been involved in Kalamunda Open Studios for many years, and it is always a great opportunity to share the studio, introduce visitors to my work and show a little more of what happens behind the finished pieces.
Rediscover Ceramics | Danica Wichtermann
I’m a ceramic artist and educator based in the Perth Hills, working primarily with porcelain to create wheel-thrown vessels, functional ceramics and sculptural works inspired by Australian native flora and fauna.
My work combines wheel throwing with intricate carving, botanical impressions, texture and coloured surface decoration. I’m particularly interested in the details found in the Australian bush, from native flowers and leaves to seed pods and the birds and animals that depend on these habitats.
During Open Studios, visitors can explore my working home studio and gallery, browse new ceramics and studio pieces, and chat with me about clay, making, teaching and the ideas behind my work.
There will also be new work and studio specials available throughout the weekend.

Beau Smith is a bladesmith working from his Perth Hills studio, creating hand-forged Japanese-style kitchen and utility knives.
His work combines traditional forging techniques with modern methods, using premium steels, Australian timbers and reclaimed materials. Each knife is individually made with a strong focus on craftsmanship, functionality, sustainability and individuality.
Beau has previously joined us at Rediscover Ceramics for Kalamunda Open Studios, and we’re pleased to welcome him back.
