SGRAFFITO CARVING- Shaped Plate -Leaf or Feather design with mini dish

This workshop offers a comprehensive introduction to sgraffito carving, covering both basic and advanced techniques. You'll learn about tool selection and usage, as well as the process of creating an artistic and functional plate.

Whether you're new to working with clay or have some experience, you're welcome to join and enjoy the satisfaction of crafting something functional with your hands. Danica will guide you through the entire process, from hand-building items using stoneware clay to decorating and personalizing your pieces. You'll have the option to create designs inspired by nature, such as leaves or feathers.

After shaping your items, you can paint them with colorful underglazes. Then, using the sgraffito technique, you'll carve back into the design to create striking, engraved lines. This technique is prominently featured in Danica's work, such as her Golden Wattle vases or Banksia Mugs.

You don't need to come with pre-drawn designs; we'll provide nature-inspired templates to work from on the day. The linework will focus on linear and organic patterns, which can create a bold visual impact. Danica will demonstrate multiple techniques and offer creative ideas to help you develop your unique piece.

During the workshop, you'll make one larger plate and a mini side plate, nibble dish, a small set of pinch pots. We will also discuss how to make your own tools and which ones are best suited for different effects.

These classes are perfect for enjoying with friends or coming alone to meet new people. They're social, relaxing, and a lot of fun. No prior experience is necessary, and the class will be adapted to suit all skill levels.
